Growing up in Irthlingborough in the early 1960s, I was very wary of the river - most years a child drowned during the summer holiday. My own grandmother nearly drowned at the locks in the 1920s.
My favourite part of the Nene is at Wadenhoe. The walk from the church on a perfect summer's afternoon - bliss. The best view in Northamptonshire is from the A6 bridge driving towards Irthlingborough. When I see St Peters church I know I'm home.
