A 75 year old man tending his family graves at St Kyneburgha, Castor told me of a story from a farm worker, now deceased. Apparently one summer, an educated guess would be approx. 100 years ago, the Nene at Castor and Ailsworth dried up and he and his fellow workers had to dig into the dried bed of the river to get water for the animals who were fed on leaves and branches as the grass was dried out.
