Here is a photograph taken in February 2014 near the village where we live, Cogenhoe. The landscape around the Nene here has changed many times due to human use, with canalisation, sewage treatment plant and gravel extraction; this ancient packhorse bridge is a nice example of the more benign human interaction with the river and enables walkers to continue to use the old footpath between Cogenhoe and Ecton.
My favourite part of the river is between Cogenhoe Mill and Whiston Lock. It is usually very tranquil, with a good variety of wildlife, plants and trees to observe on the water, in the fields on one side and shrubby grassland on the other.
